Karadaiyan Nombu

Karadaiyan Nombu is a unique Tamil festival observed by married women for the long life and prosperity of their husbands. Celebrated during the transition of Maasi to Panguni month.

Significance

Commemorates Savitri who brought back her husband from Yama (god of death) through her devotion. Married women tie a yellow sacred thread (saradu) and pray for their husband's wellbeing.

How to celebrate

Prepare karadai (sweet) and adai (savory) with rice flour. Perform puja at exact transition time (usually evening). Tie nombu saradu. Married women receive gifts from husbands.
