Krishna Jayanthi (Gokulashtami/Janmashtami) celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Celebrated with great devotion across Tamil Nadu.

Significance

Commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight in Mathura. Krishna is revered as the supreme being, teacher of Bhagavad Gita, and the divine child who brought joy to Vrindavan.

How to celebrate

Observe fast until midnight. Decorate Krishna idol. Prepare butter and sweets. Perform midnight puja. Draw small footprints leading to puja room. Young people participate in Uriyadi.
