Thai Amavasai is observed on the new moon day of Thai month for performing rituals for departed ancestors at sacred water bodies like Rameswaram.

Significance

One of the most important days for ancestor worship. Performing tharpanam brings blessings from departed souls and ensures their peaceful afterlife.

How to celebrate

Take holy bath at Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, or sacred rivers. Perform tharpanam rituals. Offer food to Brahmins. Feed crows (believed to be ancestors).
