Thaipusam is a major festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, celebrated on the full moon with Poosam star in Thai month. Famous for kavadi attam and ritual body piercing as acts of extreme devotion.

Significance

Commemorates the day Goddess Parvati gave Lord Murugan the divine Vel (spear) to defeat Soorapadman. Represents devotion, sacrifice, and triumph of good over evil.

How to celebrate

Observe strict vratam before festival. Visit Murugan temples - Palani, Thiruchendur, Tiruttani. Participate in or witness kavadi attam. Perform milk abhishekam.
