Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha (Vinayaka/Pillayar), the elephant-headed god of wisdom and remover of obstacles. Every new venture begins with his worship.

Significance

Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta) and god of beginnings. He is invoked before starting any auspicious work, education, or business.

How to celebrate

Install clay Ganesha idol. Prepare kozhukattai, sundal, and modak. Offer 21 types of leaves including arugampul. Recite Ganesha stotras. Immerse idol in water.
