Explanation

Mountains of wealth mean nothing if one neither shares it (கொடுப்பது) nor enjoys it (துய்ப்பது). True wealth is measured by its use, not its accumulation. Unused wealth is equivalent to having nothing.

Story behind this kural

In a valley village nestled beside a shimmering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun toiled endlessly, his fields yielding bountiful harvests. He built granaries overflowing with grain, yet he ate sparingly, hoarding his wealth. He wore simple clothes and lived in a modest hut, always fearing scarcity. Bala, on the other hand, also farmed diligently. He, too, saw his harvests prosper. But he shared his surplus with the village, providing food for the hungry and helping those in need. He built a comfortable home and enjoyed the fruits of his labor, hosting feasts and celebrations. Years passed. Arun's granaries remained full, untouched. He grew older, increasingly isolated and anxious, his joy withered. Bala, however, was surrounded by friends and family, his heart full of contentment. The village thrived, nourished by his generosity and warmth. When a severe drought struck, Arun's wealth could not quench his thirst, while Bala's spirit and community endured.
