பற்றற்றேம் என்பார் படிற்றொழுக்கம்
எற்றெற்றென்று ஏதம் பலவும் தரும்
Paṟṟaṟṟēm eṉpār paṭiṟṟoḻukkam
Eṟṟeṟṟeṉṟu ētam palavum tarum
English translation
The false conduct of those who claim to be free from attachments will bring them many troubles.

Explanation
Those who pretend to have renounced worldly attachments while secretly harboring them will face numerous difficulties. The exclamation "எற்றெற்று" expresses the extent and variety of troubles that will befall them.

பற்றுகள் இல்லை என்போர் பொய் ஒழுக்கம் பல துன்பம் தரும். 'கூடாவொழுக்கம்' அதிகாரத்தில் இது வருகிறது. மனசாட்சி இல்லாமல் நடிப்பதால், எண்ணற்ற கஷ்டங்கள் வந்து சேரும். உள்ளொன்று வைத்து புறமொன்று பேசக்கூடாது.

Story behind this kural
In a village nestled beside a whispering forest lived a monk named Thiru. He wore simple robes and spoke of detachment, claiming to own nothing but the clothes on his back. Villagers admired his apparent serenity and often sought his counsel. Secretly, however, Thiru coveted the finest silks from the traveling merchants and hoarded gold coins beneath the floorboards of his humble hut. He’d trade his wisdom for gifts, always ensuring he received the most valuable offerings. One harsh winter, a famine struck. The villagers, already struggling, turned to Thiru for help, recalling his vows of detachment. They pleaded for him to share his resources, believing he would. But Thiru, feigning poverty, turned them away. When the villagers discovered his hidden wealth, anger erupted. The very people who had once revered him now shunned him, their trust shattered. Thiru, once respected, was now isolated, his pretense exposed, his reputation in ruins, burdened by the weight of his own deception.
