Viṉaippakai vīyātu piṉceṉṟu aṭum

English translation

One may escape from any human enemy, but the enmity born of evil deeds will follow and destroy without end.

Listen

Explanation

Human enemies can be escaped, appeased, or outlived. But the karmic consequences of harmful actions are inescapable - they pursue the wrongdoer relentlessly.

Story behind this kural

In a quiet village nestled beside a whispering forest, lived a woodcutter named Arun. He was known for his quick temper and sharper axe. One day, a dispute arose with a potter, causing Arun to secretly sabotage the potter's kiln, ruining his livelihood. The potter, though angered, was powerless. Arun, however, soon prospered. He sold the finest wood, grew wealthy, and built a grand home. Yet, a shadow clung to him. Sleep brought nightmares of the potter's shattered pots. His food tasted like ash. Every laugh felt hollow. Then, a great storm raged, the same storm that had destroyed the potter’s kiln. Lightning struck Arun’s home, reducing his wealth to embers. The villagers, once envious, now saw him as cursed. Arun, stripped of all he had, finally understood the true cost of his actions.
