Explanation

Universal wisdom confirms: careless people never achieve lasting fame. This is not just one teacher's opinion but the consensus of scholars across all traditions (எப்பால் நூலோர்க்கும்). Vigilance is universally valued.

Story behind this kural

In a small village nestled beside a whispering river, lived two potters, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his swift hands, crafting beautiful vessels with impressive speed. Bala, however, was meticulous. He took his time, inspecting each pot for the smallest flaw before firing it. One day, the King announced a contest: the potter who created the most beautiful and durable water jug would win great riches. Arun, confident in his speed, rushed to complete his jugs, barely glancing at them. Bala, unhurried, worked carefully, ensuring each jug was perfect. Arun’s jugs, though many, cracked and leaked when filled. Bala's, fewer in number, were flawless. When the King tested them, Arun’s work crumbled, while Bala's held water for days. The King, impressed, awarded Bala the prize, declaring his jug a masterpiece.
