எழுபிறப்பும் தீயவை தீண்டா
பழிபிறங்காப் பண்புடை மக்கள் பெறின்
Eḻupiṟappum tīyavai tīṇṭā
Paḻipiraṅkāp paṇpuṭai makkaḷ peṟiṉ
English translation
If one begets children of good character who bring no disgrace, evil will not touch them through seven births.

Story behind this kural
In a small village nestled beside a whispering forest, lived an old potter named Kumar. He was known for his skilled hands but often lamented his solitary life. His only son, Arul, was a traveler, gone for years. One day, a fierce storm swept through the village, destroying homes and crops. Kumar’s humble hut was spared, miraculously. Later, a weary traveler arrived, seeking shelter. It was Arul. He had heard of the storm and, though far away, felt compelled to return and help. Arul worked tirelessly, assisting neighbors, rebuilding homes, and sharing his meager savings. When Kumar fell ill, it was Arul who nursed him, comforting him with stories and laughter. As Kumar’s final days approached, he was at peace. Villagers, touched by Arul's kindness, offered assistance and support to Kumar, until his last breath. Even after Kumar was gone, Arul remained, continuing to serve the village. The villagers were all touched by Arul's grace. In their kindness, they found an unexpected sense of peace.
