பிரிவின்கண் பீழை தருவதொன்று இல்

English translation
Friendship with fools is very sweet, for when you part, there is nothing painful about it.

Explanation
A darkly humorous observation: friendship with fools (பேதையார் கேண்மை) is very pleasant (பெரிது இனிது) because when separation comes (பிரிவின்கண்), there is no grief (பீழை இல்). Unlike true friendship, foolish company is easily discarded.

Story behind this kural
In a bustling marketplace, a young merchant named Arul befriended a flamboyant jester, Kanda. Kanda regaled Arul with jokes and tales, always cheerful, always promising grand adventures. They feasted on dates and drank sweet wine, their laughter echoing through the stalls. Arul enjoyed the carefree companionship, easily forgetting his business worries in Kanda's presence. One day, Arul’s merchant ship sailed for distant lands, laden with precious silks. He needed funds for new goods. He approached Kanda, asking for a small loan. Kanda, in a moment of mirth, clapped his hands and declared, "My friend, I have nothing!" He then skipped away, already laughing at a new joke. Arul, initially surprised, simply shrugged. He found another investor and soon prospered. He never saw Kanda again, nor did he feel any particular loss. He continued his work and traveled far. He often thought of Kanda, and smiled.
