வாய்மையொடு ஐந்துசால் பூன்றிய தூண்

Love, modesty, beneficence, compassion, and truthfulness - these five are the pillars that support nobility.

Story behind this kural
In a small village nestled beside a whispering forest, lived a woodcutter named Arul. Though poor, Arul possessed a gentle heart. He loved his neighbors, offering firewood to the elderly and sharing his meager meals. One day, a wealthy merchant, known for his pride, lost his purse. Arul found it, filled with gold. The merchant, expecting dishonesty, was shocked when Arul returned the purse, refusing any reward. "My conscience would not allow me to keep what wasn't mine," Arul explained humbly. Later, when a flood threatened the village, Arul, despite his own needs, helped others, sharing his shelter and food. He was always truthful, never boasting of his good deeds. The villagers, witnessing Arul's actions, saw the true measure of a man. They realized that riches and status were fleeting, but the kindness, honesty, and compassion of a humble heart created a lasting legacy.
