English translation
What is the use of preserving family honor when a foolish woman with bright bangles engages in shameful conduct?
Listen
Explanation
A family's reputation depends on the virtue of all its members. When women of the household lack proper conduct, all efforts to maintain family dignity become futile.

Story behind this kural
In a small village nestled beside a whispering river lived a wealthy merchant, Silas. He toiled tirelessly, building a grand house and earning the respect of his community. He dreamed of securing his family's legacy. He often lectured his son on the importance of honor and hard work. Silas’s wife, Elara, however, was known for her frivolous ways. She adorned herself with jewels, gossiped with the townspeople, and neglected the needs of her home. Though Silas provided abundantly, Elara spent lavishly, hosting extravagant parties while ignoring the well-being of her children. One day, a respected elder approached Silas. "Your home shines, Silas," he said, "but its light is dimmed by shadows. A house built on wealth alone crumbles without the mortar of virtue." Soon after, rumors spread of Elara's reckless behavior. Despite Silas's grand house and wealth, his family's reputation began to fade, leaving Silas’s legacy in doubt.
