பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை
அப்பற்றைப் பற்றுக பற்று விடற்கு
Paṟṟuka paṟṟaṟṟāṉ paṟṟiṉai
Appaṟṟaip paṟṟuka paṟṟu viṭaṟku
English translation
Cling to the attachment of the attachment-free One; hold that attachment to release all attachments.

Explanation
A paradoxical conclusion: to release all attachments, one must first attach to God (the attachment-free One). Divine attachment is the cure for worldly attachment. This is the path of devotion leading to liberation.

Story behind this kural
In a humble village nestled beside a whispering forest, lived a woodcutter named Arul. He was consumed by the desire for wealth, his days spent toiling, his nights filled with worry about losing what he had. One day, a traveling sage arrived, his face radiating a peaceful light. Arul, desperate for solace, poured out his troubles. The sage listened patiently, then gifted Arul a single, perfect seed, instructing him to care for it above all else. Arul, puzzled but hopeful, followed the sage's words. He built a small shrine for the seed, tending to it with unwavering devotion, forgetting his worries about wealth. He watered it, protected it from the sun and wind, and chanted softly to it. As months passed, the seed sprouted, grew, and flourished into a magnificent tree. Arul, consumed by his devotion to the tree, no longer desired riches. He found joy in simply caring for it. He realized that in clinging to the seed, he had, paradoxically, released his grasp on the things that once bound him.
