Vakuttāṉ vakutta vakaiyallāl
Kōṭi tokuttārkkum tuyttal aritu
English translation
Even those who have accumulated millions cannot enjoy beyond what the Creator has allotted.
Listen
Explanation
The ultimate truth about wealth: even கோடி (crores/millions) cannot buy more enjoyment than what fate has determined. The வகுத்தான் (He who has allotted) controls what we actually experience.

Story behind this kural
In a prosperous village nestled beside a shimmering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun toiled tirelessly, year after year, his fields yielding bountiful harvests. He built grand homes, filled granaries, and amassed riches beyond measure. Bala, however, lived a simpler life, his harvest modest, his home humble. Yet, every evening, he would sit by the river, singing and sharing his meager meal with any passerby. One year, a terrible drought struck. Arun's vast fields withered, his granaries emptied. Despite his wealth, he could not bring rain. Bala's small plot, surprisingly, received a gentle, life-giving shower. His crops thrived, providing him enough to share. Arun, though wealthy, found himself with nothing. Bala, though with little, had everything he needed.
