செவிகைப்பச் சொற்பொறுக்கும் பண்புடை வேந்தன்
கவிகைக்கீழ்த் தங்கும் உலகு
Cevikaippac coṟpoṟukkum paṇpuṭai vēntaṉ
Kavikaikīḻt taṅkum ulaku
English translation
The world will shelter under the umbrella of a noble king who tolerates even words that hurt his ears.

குறள் 389: செவிகைக்கும் சொற்களைப் பொறுக்கும் அரசரின் குடையின் கீழ் உலகம் தங்கும். கடினமான விமர்சனத்தையும் தாங்கும் நல்ல அரசர், உலகிற்குப் பாதுகாப்பு அளிப்பார். இறைமாட்சி அதிகாரத்தில், பொறுமையே சிறந்த ஆட்சிக்கு வழி என்று வள்ளுவர் கூறுகிறார். பொறுமை காப்பதால் நாடு செழிக்கும்.

They realized the king's true strength lay not in his power, but in his willingness to listen, to understand, and to act with compassion, even when faced with harsh words. The valley flourished under his continued reign.
