Listen

Explanation

Some think they can associate with bad people without being affected, believing they are detached. This is self-deception. The suffering that comes from such association is extremely difficult to escape. Prevention is far easier than cure.

Story behind this kural

In a quiet village nestled beside a shimmering lake, lived two fishermen, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his kind heart and steady hand, while Bala, though skilled, often sought the company of the gossiping villagers and the sly merchant, always scheming for an easy gain. One day, Bala, swayed by the merchant's promises of riches, began using a forbidden fishing net, disregarding Arun's warnings. At first, their catches were plentiful. Bala reveled in his increased wealth, ignoring the whispers of the villagers and the shadow of the law. Soon, the lake’s bounty dwindled. The fish, once abundant, became scarce. Then, the authorities arrived, punishing those who used the illegal nets. Arun, having fished with integrity, was spared, while Bala lost everything, his wealth vanished as quickly as it had appeared. He found himself ostracized, the merchant nowhere to be found, the lake offering only a cruel reflection of his choices.
