திருவினைத் தீராமை ஆர்க்குங் கயிறு
Paruvattōṭu oṭṭa oḻukal
Tiruviṉait tīrāmai ārkkuṅ kayiṟu
English translation
Acting in harmony with the times is the rope that binds fortune so it cannot escape.

Story behind this kural
In a village nestled beside a lush river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun noticed the river's edge was eroding, threatening his fields. He immediately began building a sturdy stone wall. Bala, however, saw the river was low and the soil rich. He planted his crops, hoping for a bountiful harvest. The rains came. Arun's wall held, saving his land. Bala's crops flourished at first, but the river swelled, overflowing its banks. His fields flooded, and his harvest was lost. Arun helped Bala rebuild, but it took years for Bala to recover. The next season, the village elder declared a festival. Arun, remembering the prior year, saved his resources. Bala, wanting to celebrate, spent all his earnings. Then, a sudden famine struck. Arun had stored food, while Bala had nothing.
