பெருங்கொடையான் பேணான் வெகுளி
அவனின் மருங்குடையார் மாநிலத்து இல்
Peruṅkoṭaiyāṉ pēṇāṉ vekuḷi
Avaṉiṉ maruṅkuṭaiyār mānilattu il
English translation
There is none on this great earth who has more supporters than one who gives generously and controls anger.

Explanation
Two qualities create maximum support: பெருங்கொடை (great generosity) and avoiding வெகுளி (anger). Such a person will have more followers than anyone else. Generosity attracts; anger repels.

Story behind this kural
In the village of Eldoria, lived two brothers, Theron and Kael. Theron was known for his booming laughter and open hand. He shared his harvest with anyone in need, often giving away more than he kept. Kael, however, was quick to anger. A harsh word could send him into a rage, and he hoarded his wealth, distrusting others. One harsh winter, the village faced famine. Theron, though he had little left, opened his storehouse and shared his remaining grains. Villagers, grateful for his kindness, helped him rebuild when his own roof collapsed. Kael, seeing the desperation, demanded high prices for his stored food. The villagers, though hungry, turned away, their faces etched with disappointment. When Kael's house caught fire, no one offered aid. Only Theron, his heart filled with compassion, organized the rescue, saving Kael's life.
