Explanation
Effort (தாளாண்மை) is called a தகைமை (noble quality). From this springs the ability to practice வேளாண்மை (helping others, generosity). The word செருக்கு usually means pride, but here it means the honorable pride of being a benefactor. One must first work hard to earn, then one can have the privilege of giving.

Story behind this kural
In a village nestled beside a lush green valley, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his generous heart. He readily shared his meager harvest, often leaving his own family with little. Bala, on the other hand, toiled tirelessly in his fields, rising with the sun and working until the stars appeared. One year, a terrible drought struck. Arun’s crops failed, and he had nothing to give. He went to Bala, hat in hand, seeking help. Bala, though saddened by his neighbor's plight, had enough food stored to feed his own family through the harsh season. He offered Arun a portion of his harvest, not just once, but throughout the drought. Arun, humbled, helped Bala tend his fields after the rains returned. They harvested a great bounty together that year.
