நாடாமைக் காட்டும் கறுகுந் திரை
Nāṭṭāṉ nāṭṭiyiṉ nāṭātu
Nāṭāmaik kāṭṭum kaṟukun tirai
English translation
If a ruler does not properly govern the country, the withering crops and receding waves will reveal the neglect.
Listen
Explanation
A ruler's failure to govern well becomes evident through natural signs - crops that wither from lack of care and ocean waves that recede, symbolizing the withdrawal of prosperity. Nature itself testifies to poor governance.

Story behind this kural
In the village of Eldoria, the crops once flourished under the benevolent rule of King Alaric. Fields of grain swayed in the breeze, and the river flowed generously, providing for all. But when King Alaric became consumed by his own pleasures, he neglected his duties. The royal granaries emptied, and the farmers struggled. The once-fertile land began to yield less, the stalks of wheat withered before harvest. The river, once a source of abundance, grew shallow, its flow weakened. The fishermen found their nets coming up empty. Whispers of discontent spread through the village. The people, once happy, now bore the weight of worry. They looked to the empty fields and the receding waters, a silent testament to the King’s neglect. Eldoria's prosperity, like the river, was slowly disappearing.
