Listen

Explanation

Poverty brings a triple curse: inherited shame from impoverished lineage, crushing financial obligations, and present dishonor that compounds across generations.

Story behind this kural

In a humble village nestled beside a whispering river, lived a farmer named Arul. His fields yielded little, and his family often went hungry. He inherited his father's debts, a heavy burden that weighed upon his spirit. One year, a wealthy merchant offered Arul a loan, promising prosperity if he cultivated a new crop. Arul, desperate, agreed. The crop failed. He could not repay the debt. The merchant, furious, seized Arul’s meager possessions, leaving his family with nothing. Arul’s children, once proud, now hid their faces in shame. They were mocked by others in the village. Even the land seemed to reject them. They remembered their grandfather's failings and knew their present struggles were a reflection of the past. The weight of their ancestor’s burden, their own crushing debt, and the village’s scorn, seemed to follow them everywhere. Their future was clouded by the shadow of poverty.
