Listen

Explanation

True பேராண்மை (great manliness) is அறுகண் (fearlessness). But ஊராண்மை (service to community/benevolence) gives it its sharp edge (எஃகு). Valor must be tempered with compassion.

விளக்கம்

Story behind this kural

In a village nestled beside a dark forest lived two brothers, warriors renowned for their courage. The elder, Arul, was fearless in battle, his sword a blur of steel against any foe. He protected the village fiercely, driving off bandits and wild beasts. But he often scorned the villagers, seeing them as weak and beneath him. The younger, Selvan, possessed the same bravery but also a gentle heart. He, too, fought bravely, but afterward, he helped the injured, shared his meager food with the hungry, and always listened to the villagers' concerns. One day, a fearsome dragon threatened the village. Arul charged forward, his sword clashing against the beast's scales, but the dragon's fiery breath pushed him back. Selvan, seeing Arul falter, fought alongside him, but more importantly, he rallied the villagers. Together, they devised a clever trap. The dragon, ensnared, was defeated. Afterward, the villagers cheered, not just for Selvan, but for both brothers, their combined strength having saved them all.
