Listen
Explanation
Internal enemies with corrupt minds (மனம் மாணா) cause multiple harms that disgrace the entire family or clan. Their treachery brings shame beyond the immediate damage.

Story behind this kural
In a prosperous village nestled beside a shimmering river lived a wealthy merchant named Arul. He had two sons, Kumar and Ravi. Kumar, the elder, was known for his generosity. Ravi, however, harbored a secret envy of his brother's good fortune and his father's affection. One year, a terrible drought struck. Arul's granaries, usually overflowing, began to dwindle. Kumar, seeing the villagers suffer, urged his father to distribute the remaining grain. Ravi secretly advised his father to hoard the grain, hoping to profit from the scarcity. Arul, torn between his sons' counsel, followed Ravi's advice, believing it was prudent. But as the villagers grew desperate, they turned against Arul, accusing him of selfishness. The family's reputation crumbled. Kumar, ashamed, left the village. Arul, stripped of his honor and his wealth, was left alone, regretting the day he listened to the voice of greed.
