Listen

Explanation

No amount of backing or support (இறந்தமைந்த சார்பு) can save someone who has angered the truly glorious (சிறந்தமைந்த சீரார்). Their wrath is inescapable regardless of one's protections.

Story behind this kural

The young merchant, Arul, was known for his sharp tongue. He often mocked the village elder, a wise woman named Maya, despite her years of service and gentle counsel. Arul, puffed up by his growing wealth, believed he was untouchable. He had powerful friends and a network of alliances throughout the kingdom. One day, Arul’s caravans began to fail. First, his goods spoiled mysteriously. Then, his trading partners withdrew their support. He blamed bad luck, but his fortunes continued to plummet. His allies, once eager to share his prosperity, distanced themselves. Desperate, Arul sought Maya's advice. He found her tending her garden, her face serene. He begged for help, but she simply smiled and said, "The wind blows where it will." Arul, stripped of his wealth and influence, finally understood the true value of respect. His arrogance had brought him low, despite his worldly support.
