தகைசெருக்கிப் புன்னலம் பாரிப்பார் தோள்
Tannalam pārippār tōyār
Takaicerukki puṉṉalam pārippār tōḷ
English translation
Those who care for their own welfare will not embrace the shoulders of those who proudly peddle their base charms.

Self-respecting men (தன் நலம் பாரிப்பார்) avoid women who arrogantly display their base beauty for sale. Pride in one's well-being keeps one from such degradation.

Story behind this kural
In the village of Eldoria, lived two merchants, Silas and Thomas. Silas was known for his shrewd business sense and unwavering integrity. Thomas, however, was drawn to fleeting pleasures and the company of those who flattered him. One day, a festival came to Eldoria. Merchants from afar set up stalls, and entertainers filled the square. A beautiful woman, known for her captivating dances, drew large crowds. Thomas was immediately captivated, showering her with gifts and attention. Silas, observing the spectacle, shook his head. He saw the woman's practiced smiles and the shallow nature of her interest. He focused instead on his business, trading fairly and building lasting relationships. As the festival ended, Thomas found his wealth depleted, his affections unrequited. Silas, meanwhile, had increased his profits and earned the respect of his peers. The woman had moved on, seeking the next admirer. Thomas was left with empty pockets and a hollow heart. Silas, however, continued to thrive, his integrity his greatest asset.
