அகடாரார் அல்லல் உழப்பர்சூ
தென்னும் முகடியான் மூடப்பட் டார்

Teṉṉum mukaṭiyāṉ mūṭappaṭ ṭār
English translation
Those enveloped by the demon called gambling will never be satisfied and will suffer endless misery.

Gambling is personified as a முகடி (demon/hag) that envelops (மூடப்பட்டார்) its victims. They become அகடாரார் (never satisfied) and suffer perpetual அல்லல் (misery).

சூது ஒரு தீய ஆவி. சூதாட்டத்தினால் மூடப்பட்டவர்கள் திருப்தி அடையாமல் துன்பப்படுவார்கள். சூது வேண்டாம் என்பதே இக்குறளின் நீதி. பொருள் அதிகாரத்தில் இது சூதின் தீமையை விளக்குகிறது.

The village knew the merchant's game as the 'Devi of Tricks'.
