மருந்தென வேண்டாவாம் யாக்கைக்கு
அருந்தியது அற்றது போற்றி உணின்
Marunteṉa vēṇṭāvām yākkaikku
Aruntiyatu aṟṟatu pōṟṟi uṇiṉ
English translation
No medicine is needed for the body if one eats carefully after the previous meal is digested.

Story behind this kural
In a village nestled beside a whispering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun, known for his robust health, always waited until the sun had fully set before his evening meal, ensuring his morning meal was completely gone. Bala, however, often ate whenever hunger struck, regardless of the time or the food he had eaten earlier. One season, a strange illness swept through the village. Many fell ill, but Arun remained strong. Bala, on the other hand, was among the first to be bedridden. The village healer visited both men. He gave Arun simple herbs to maintain his strength. For Bala, he prescribed a bitter potion and instructed him to fast until he felt better. As the villagers recovered, they noticed a pattern. Those who, like Arun, ate only when truly hungry, recovered quickly. Those, like Bala, who ate without thought, lingered longer in their sickness. The river continued its silent journey, carrying with it the lessons learned from the season's trials.
