வழங்குவ துள்வீழ்ந்தக் கண்ணும்
பழங்குடி பண்பில் தலைப்பிரிதல் இன்று
Vaḻaṅkuva tuḷvīḻntak kaṇṇum
Paḻaṅkuṭi paṇpil talaippirital iṉṟu
English translation
Even when resources for giving diminish, ancient noble families never abandon their generous nature.

True nobility maintains generosity (பண்பு) even when resources decline (வழங்குவது உள் வீழ்ந்த). Ancient families (பழங்குடி) never separate (தலைப்பிரிதல் இன்று) from their charitable nature.

Story behind this kural
In a valley nestled between towering mountains lived the villagers of Eldoria. For generations, they had been known for their bountiful harvests and open hands. The wealthiest family, the Eldrin, always shared their surplus, especially during lean times. One year, a blight struck, withering the crops. The Eldrin's granaries, usually overflowing, dwindled. Whispers of hardship spread through the village. Some suggested the Eldrin hoard their remaining stores. But Lord Eldrin, despite his own family's struggles, announced a public feast. He offered what little grain remained, sharing it equally amongst everyone. Many were shocked. Yet, they ate and were nourished. The following year, the rains returned, and the valley flourished again. The Eldrin family's generosity was remembered, their name spoken with renewed respect and gratitude. Even when the crops were meager, their noble spirit never failed.
