இசை இசை இனிய இசை இதயத்தைத் தொடும் இசை நசை என்றும் தீராத இசை நாளும் கேட்கத் துடிக்கும் இசை ஏழு சுரங்கள் இணைந்திடுமே இன்பம் பிறக்கும் இசையிலே வாழும் நாளும் இசை வேண்டும் வானமும் மண்ணும் இசைக்குமே குயில் கூவும் இசை கேளாய் குளிர் காற்றின் இசை கேளாய் அருவி பாடும் இசை கேளாய் அனைத்தும் இறைவன் இசையே காண் வீணை யாழ் புல்லாங்குழல் வேணு நாதம் இனிதாகும் காணும் உலகே இசை வடிவம் கற்றுக் கொள் நீயும் இசையை இசையில்லா வாழ்வு வெறுமை இசை கற்றால் இனிமை பெருமை நிசமான ஆனந்தம் இசையே நீயும் பாடு இசைக்கடலே

English Translation
Music, music, sweet music Music that touches the heart Music whose longing never ends Music that makes one eager to hear daily Seven notes combine together Joy is born in music Music is needed in all living days The sky and earth make music too Listen to the cuckoo's music Listen to the cool wind's music Listen to the waterfall's singing See, all is the music of the divine Veena, yazh, flute The melody of the bamboo flute is sweet The entire visible world is music's form You too learn music Life without music is emptiness If you learn music, sweetness and greatness True bliss is music indeed You too sing, O ocean of music
Historical Context
This poem reflects Bharathiyar's deep love for music (இசை). He was himself an accomplished singer and poet who set many of his verses to Carnatic ragas. Written around 1910-1916, the poem connects music to the divine - a core concept in Indian classical traditions. The mention of seven swaras (ஏழு சுரங்கள்) refers to Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa Da Ni. Bharathiyar saw music everywhere - in nature, in the flute (புல்லாங்குழல்), and in the ancient veena (வீணை). This universalizing of music reflects his vision of a world where beauty and harmony pervade all existence.
