ஜெய ஜெய பாரதம் என்று கூவு ஜெயம் உனக்கே என்று நம்பு அஜயம் என்பது உன் இயல்பு அன்னை பாரதம் வாழ்க என்று இமய மலையே தலை ஆகும் இந்தியா என்னும் பெரு நாடு உமையவள் வாழும் திருநாடு உலகிற்கு வழி காட்டும் நாடு கங்கை யமுனை கோதாவரி காவேரி நர்மதை நதிகள் மங்களம் சேர்க்கும் புண்ணிய நீர் மாபெரும் பாரத நாடு கீதையும் வேதமும் தந்த நாடு கிருஷ்ணனும் புத்தரும் பிறந்த நாடு ஆதியும் அந்தமும் இல்லா அமர பாரத நாடு ஜெய ஜெய பாரதம் என்று கூவு ஜெயம் நமக்கே என்று ஓது உயர்ந்திடு வாழ்ந்திடு என்றும் ஒளிர்ந்திடு பாரத நாடே

Cry out Victory, Victory to Bharatam Believe that victory is yours Being unconquered is your nature Say long live Mother Bharatam The Himalaya mountain is the head Of the great land called India The sacred land where Uma dwells The land that shows the way to the world Ganges, Yamuna, Godavari Kaveri, Narmada rivers Sacred waters that bring auspiciousness The great nation of Bharat The land that gave the Gita and Vedas The land where Krishna and Buddha were born Without beginning and without end The immortal nation of Bharat Cry out Victory, Victory to Bharatam Proclaim that victory is ours Rise up and live forever Shine forth, O nation of Bharat
Historical Context
Written during the height of the Indian independence movement around 1908-1912, this poem is Bharathiyar's powerful nationalist anthem. It draws on the ancient concept of Bharat as a sacred land (punyabhoomi) with rivers as holy arteries and the Himalayas as the crown. The references to Gita, Vedas, Krishna, and Buddha showcase India's spiritual contributions to humanity. The term "Ajayam" (unconquered/invincible) was a bold declaration during British colonial rule.
