காற்று வருகிறது காற்று கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாத காற்று ஆற்றல் மிகுந்த காற்று அனைத்தையும் அசைக்கும் காற்று எங்கும் நிறைந்து இருக்கும் எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் மூச்சு தங்கும் இடம் எல்லாம் வானம் தடை இல்லா சுதந்திரம் மரங்களை ஆட்டும் காற்று மலர்களை மணக்கச் செய்யும் சிறகின்றி பறக்கும் காற்று சீற்றத்தில் புயல் ஆகும் குளிர்ந்த தென்றல் இன்பம் கொடுங்காற்று அச்சம் தரும் தெளிந்த மனம் போல் ஆகு தீமையை அகற்றும் காற்று மனிதா நீ காற்று போல் ஆகு மறையாமல் எங்கும் இரு இனிமையும் வீரமும் கொண்டு இவ்வுலகில் வாழ்ந்திடு

English Translation
The wind comes, the wind Wind invisible to the eye The powerful wind Wind that moves everything It fills everywhere It is the breath for all lives Everywhere it stays is sky Freedom without obstruction Wind that sways the trees It makes flowers spread fragrance Wind that flies without wings In fury it becomes a storm Cool breeze brings pleasure Fierce wind brings fear Become like a clear mind Wind that removes evil O human, become like the wind Be everywhere without hiding With sweetness and valor Live in this world
Historical Context
This poem celebrates the wind (காற்று), one of the five elements (பஞ்ச பூதங்கள்) in Tamil philosophy. Written around 1910-1915, Bharathiyar uses the wind as a metaphor for the ideal human spirit - omnipresent, essential, capable of both gentleness and power. The contrast between தென்றல் (gentle breeze) and கொடுங்காற்று/புயல் (storm) mirrors the human capacity for both kindness and righteous anger. The call to be like wind - free, everywhere, essential - reflects Bharathiyar's philosophy of freedom and active presence in the world.
