காக்கைச் சிறகினிலே நந்தலாலா - நின்றன் கரிய நிறம் தோன்றுதையே நந்தலாலா! பார்க்கும் மரங்களெல்லாம் நந்தலாலா - நின்றன் பச்சை நிறம் தோன்றுதையே நந்தலாலா! கேட்கும் ஒலியிலெல்லாம் நந்தலாலா - நின்றன் கீதம் இசைக்குதையே நந்தலாலா! தீக்குள் விரலை வைத்தால் நந்தலாலா - நின்னைத் தீண்டும் இன்பம் தோன்றுதையே நந்தலாலா! நீக்கம் அற நிறைந்த நந்தலாலா - நின்னை நினைக்கின்ற நெஞ்சமெல்லாம் நந்தலாலா ஆக்கை மறந்திருக்கும் நந்தலாலா - நின்னில் ஆழ்ந்த சுகம் கண்டதே நந்தலாலா!

Kaakkaich siraginile Nandhalaalaa - nindran Kariya niram thondrudhaye Nandhalaalaa! Paarkkum marangalellam Nandhalaalaa - nindran Pachchai niram thondrudhaye Nandhalaalaa! Ketkum oliyilellam Nandhalaalaa - nindran Geetham isaikkudhaye Nandhalaalaa! Theekkul viralai vaiththaal Nandhalaalaa - ninnai Theendum inbam thondrudhaye Nandhalaalaa! Neekkam ara niraindha Nandhalaalaa - ninnai Ninaikkindra nenjamellam Nandhalaalaa Aakkai marandhirukkum Nandhalaalaa - ninnil Aazhntha sukam kandadhey Nandhalaalaa!
English Translation
On the crow's wings, Nandalala - Your Dark color appears, Nandalala! In all the trees I see, Nandalala - Your Green color appears, Nandalala! In every sound I hear, Nandalala - Your Song resounds, Nandalala! If I put my finger in fire, Nandalala - The Joy of touching you appears, Nandalala! You who fill everything completely, Nandalala - Every Heart that thinks of you, Nandalala Forgets its body, Nandalala - In you It has found deep bliss, Nandalala!
Historical Context
This poem is from Bharathiyar's "Kannan Pattu" (Songs of Krishna) collection. It expresses the Vedantic philosophy of seeing the divine in all creation - from the dark wings of a crow to the green of trees, from sounds to even the sensation of fire. "Nandalala" is another name for Krishna (son of Nanda). The poem teaches children to see beauty and divinity in everyday nature. This philosophy of finding God in all things makes it accessible for children while conveying deep spiritual meaning. It was set to music and became a popular film song.
