தொழில்நுட்பம் கற்றிடுவோம் தொடர்ந்து முன்னேறிடுவோம் எழில் மிகு எந்திரங்கள் இன்று நமக்கு உதவும் நீராவி ரயில் வந்தது நிலத்தை இணைத்தது ஓரிடத்திலிருந்து மற்றொன்றுக்கு ஓடி வருகிறது விரைவாய் தந்தி கம்பி செய்தியனுப்பும் தாரணி சுருங்கிவிட்டது எந்த நாட்டின் செய்தியும் இப்போதே தெரிந்திடும் எந்திரம் நூல் நெய்கிறது ஏர் உழும் வயல்களில் வந்தது புது யுகம் வளர்ச்சியின் காலம் இது தொழில்நுட்பம் அறிந்தவன் தொண்டனாய் நாட்டுக்கு உழைப்பான் கொழுந்து விட்டு எரியும் அறிவு குவலயம் ஆளும் சக்தியாம்

English Translation
Let us learn technology Let us continue to advance Beautiful machines Help us today The steam train came It connected the lands From one place to another It comes running swiftly Telegraph wires send messages The world has shrunk News from any country Can be known right now Machines weave cloth Plows till the fields A new era has arrived This is the age of growth One who knows technology Will work as a servant for the nation Knowledge burning brightly Is the power that rules the world
Historical Context
Written around 1910-1916, this poem reveals Bharathiyar's fascination with the technological changes of his era. He mentions steam trains (நீராவி ரயில்), telegraph (தந்தி), and industrial machinery. Rather than fearing technology, he saw it as a tool for national development. The phrase "தாரணி சுருங்கிவிட்டது" (the world has shrunk) anticipates our modern global village. Bharathiyar encouraged Indians to master technology rather than remain dependent on colonial powers. This forward-thinking view made him unique among contemporary poets.
