அருள்நீங்கி அல்லவை செய்தொழுகு வார்
Poruḷnīṅkip poccāntār eṉpar
Aruḷnīṅki allavai ceytoḻuku vār
English translation
Those who abandon compassion and do wrong are said to have forgotten the purpose of life itself.

Story behind this kural
In a quiet village nestled beside a whispering forest, lived two brothers, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his gentle heart, always helping others. Bala, however, was driven by greed. When a devastating drought struck, the villagers faced starvation. Arun shared his meager grain, ensuring everyone ate. Bala, on the other hand, hoarded his supplies, selling them at exorbitant prices. One day, a weary traveler, desperate for food, begged Bala for help. Bala, seeing an opportunity for profit, refused. That night, a great storm raged, destroying Bala's granary. The next morning, Arun found Bala, shivering and defeated, having lost everything. Arun, without hesitation, offered him food and shelter. He welcomed his brother back into the community with open arms. The villagers, witnessing Arun's compassion, understood the true measure of a man.
