English translation

Sorrows will cling without letting go to those who cling to attachments without letting go.

Listen

Explanation

A perfect mirror structure: those who hold tight to attachments will find sorrows holding tight to them. The remedy is clear - release attachments to release suffering.

Story behind this kural

In a small village nestled beside a whispering river lived a potter named Arun. He cherished his workshop, his tools, and especially his finest clay pot, decorated with intricate carvings. He boasted of its beauty and its value, always fearful of it being broken or stolen. One day, a storm raged, flooding Arun's workshop. He frantically tried to save his precious pot, but the rushing water swept it away. Arun was heartbroken, wailing and lamenting the loss. He spent days searching for it, neglecting his work and his well-being. Meanwhile, his neighbor, Kumar, a humble farmer, lost his entire crop to the same storm. Yet, he surveyed the damage with a sigh, then immediately began clearing his fields, replanting what he could. He understood that life, like the river, constantly changes. Kumar, despite the loss, continued with his life and was grateful for what he had.
