இருள்நீங்கி இன்பம் பயக்கும்
மருள்நீங்கி மாசறு காட்சி யவர்க்கு
Iruḷnīṅki iṉpam payakkum
Maruḷnīṅki mācarū kāṭci yavarku
English translation
Darkness departs and bliss arises for those who have removed delusion and attained pure vision.

Explanation
When the fog of மருள் (delusion) clears, the இருள் (darkness) of ignorance vanishes. What remains is மாசறு காட்சி - spotless, pure perception of reality, which brings lasting இன்பம் (bliss).

Story behind this kural
In a valley nestled between towering peaks lived two villagers, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his sharp mind, always seeking the best bargain at the market. Bala, however, was content, finding joy in simple things. One day, a traveling merchant arrived, displaying shimmering stones. Arun, convinced they were priceless gems, traded all his possessions. Bala, though offered a stone, saw only colored glass. Days turned into weeks. Arun, obsessed with his "gems," grew gaunt and irritable, constantly fretting over their value. He hoarded them, suspicious of everyone. Bala, meanwhile, continued his life, helping his neighbors, his face lit with a gentle smile. One harsh winter, Arun's "gems" proved worthless, unable to buy him food or warmth. He watched, dejected, as Bala shared his meager supplies with those in need, his heart filled with a warmth that Arun could not understand.
