English translation
The rarest of all rare achievements is to cherish and make great people your own.
Listen
Explanation
Among all difficult accomplishments, the hardest is gaining and keeping the loyalty of great souls (பெரியார்). This requires constant attention and care (பேணி). Once achieved, it brings incomparable strength.

Story behind this kural
The young farmer, Arun, was known for his fertile fields, but he lacked wisdom in managing his harvest. Each year, his crops suffered from blight or theft, despite his hard work. One day, the wise elder, Kavi, observed Arun's struggles. Kavi, renowned for his knowledge of the land, offered guidance, sharing secrets of crop rotation and pest control. Arun, initially hesitant, followed Kavi's advice. His harvest flourished. Yet, Arun, consumed by his newfound success, grew distant from Kavi, neglecting his counsel. The following year, disaster struck. Arun’s crops failed. He returned to Kavi, humbled, seeking help. This time, he listened attentively, understanding that true wealth lay not just in material gain, but in the wisdom and guidance of those who possessed it. Arun diligently followed Kavi's advice and learned to truly appreciate and respect the elder's wisdom, ensuring a bountiful harvest year after year.
