Listen

Explanation

This kural mirrors 601 but with a positive message. The same lamp metaphor is used, but here we see the solution: remove the stain (மாசு அற = completely stainless). When laziness is eliminated, the family lamp burns brilliantly. The word கோடி can mean "crores" (immense) or "tip/peak" - either way suggesting maximum brilliance.

Story behind this kural

In a village nestled beside a shimmering lake lived two brothers, Arun and Bala. Arun, known for his diligence, toiled in his fields from dawn till dusk, his lamp always lit. His harvest was bountiful, and his home prospered, a beacon in the twilight. Bala, however, preferred the shade, dreaming of riches while his fields lay barren. He'd often say, "Tomorrow, I shall work," but tomorrow never truly arrived. As seasons turned, Arun’s family flourished, their laughter echoing through the village. Bala's home, however, grew dim. His lamp flickered, its light struggling against the shadows of neglect. His family’s faces became etched with worry. One day, watching Arun's joyful harvest, Bala understood. He began to work alongside his brother, and the light in his own home began to glow brighter again.
