Explanation
Thiruvalluvar defines இகல் (enmity) as a disease (நோய்) that spreads (பாரிக்கும்) the harmful quality of division (பகல்) and destroys noble characteristics (பண்பின்மை) in all living beings.

Story behind this kural
In a serene village nestled beside a whispering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Their fields bordered each other, and for years, they toiled in harmony. Their harvests were plentiful, and their families thrived. One season, a dispute arose over a shared irrigation ditch. Words escalated, and soon, bitter rivalry bloomed between them. Arun began diverting water from Bala's fields. Bala, in turn, spread rumors about Arun's crops. Their once-friendly smiles turned to frowns. Their children, who once played together, now avoided each other. The village, once filled with their laughter, now echoed with their accusations. The once vibrant fields of both men slowly withered. The joy of the harvest faded. The villagers watched with saddened hearts, witnessing the blight that spread through the once fertile land.
