English translation

One who cannot control anger and lacks restraint is easy prey for anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Listen

Explanation

An enemy who cannot abandon anger (நீங்கான் வெகுளி) and lacks self-control (நிறையிலன்) is vulnerable everywhere (யாங்கணும்), always (எஞ்ஞான்றும்), to everyone (யார்க்கும்). Uncontrolled rage is a fatal weakness.

Story behind this kural

In a peaceful village nestled beside a whispering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his calm demeanor, his patience as vast as the fields he tilled. Bala, however, possessed a temper as unpredictable as the summer storms. One day, a dispute arose over a shared irrigation ditch. Arun, calmly explaining the situation, suggested a solution. Bala, however, erupted in fury, his face contorted, his voice booming. He cursed Arun, threatening to destroy his crops. News of Bala’s outburst reached the ears of a cunning merchant, who had long coveted Bala's fertile land. Seeing an opportunity, the merchant subtly fueled Bala’s anger, whispering lies and exaggerations about Arun's supposed offenses. Blinded by rage, Bala readily believed. He then sold his land for a pittance, unable to think clearly. Soon, the merchant seized Bala’s property. Arun, witnessing Bala's downfall, simply shook his head, continuing his quiet work. The river continued to flow, indifferent to the misfortunes of those who let their anger rule them.
