கெடல்வேண்டின் கேளாது செய்க
அடல்வேண்டின் ஆற்று பவர்கண் இழுக்கு
Keṭalvēṇṭin kēḷātu ceyka
Aṭalvēṇṭiṉ āṟṟu pavarkaN iḻukku
English translation
If you desire ruin, act without heeding advice; if you desire destruction, commit wrongs against the powerful.

Two paths to self-destruction: ignoring counsel (கேளாது செய்க) and offending the powerful (ஆற்றுபவர்கண் இழுக்கு). This is ironic advice - do these if you want to perish.

Story behind this kural
In a small village nestled beside a great mountain lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun was known for his stubbornness, always refusing the wise advice of the village elder. He insisted on planting his crops on the steep slopes, ignoring warnings of landslides. The elder cautioned him, “The mountain will not yield to your will.” Bala, on the other hand, was envious of the wealthy merchant, Selvan. He spread rumors about Selvan's dealings, hoping to damage his reputation and seize his land. Selvan, though powerful and respected, chose to remain silent. When the rains came, Arun's fields washed away, and he lost everything. Soon after, Bala was found accused of theft, and banished from the village. The village whispered, "He who defies the mountain will be swept away. He who offends the powerful will find himself broken."
