Story behind this kural
In a small village nestled beside a lush green forest, lived a woodcutter named Arul. He was known for his strength and skill, but recently, his wife, Vani, had taken charge of all decisions. One day, Vani demanded Arul chop down the sacred banyan tree, claiming the wood would fetch a high price. Though his heart ached, Arul obeyed. The village elder warned him, "That tree shelters the spirits of our ancestors!" Arul ignored the warning. He felled the tree, sold the wood, and gave the money to Vani. Soon, the money was gone. Vani then insisted they sell their only cow. Without the cow's milk, their children grew weak. Arul, following Vani's orders, complied. As the villagers prospered with their harvests, Arul and his family faced hardship. Their home fell into disrepair, and they had nothing to offer for the village's annual offering to the gods.
