எண்சேர்ந்த நெஞ்சத் திடனுடையார்க்கு
எஞ்ஞான்றும் பெண்சேர்ந்து ஆம் பேதைமை இல்
Eṇcērnta neñcat tiṭaṉuṭaiyārkku
Eññāṉṟum peṇcērntu ām pētaimai il
English translation
For those whose hearts are filled with noble thoughts and firm resolve, there is never the folly of excessive attachment to women.

Men of strong character (எண் சேர்ந்த நெஞ்சம்) and steadfast resolve (இடன் உடையார்) never fall into the foolishness of uxoriousness. Mental strength prevents such weakness.

Story behind this kural
In the village of Vallam, lived two farmers, Arul and Karthi. Both were known for their strength, but Arul’s wife, Selvi, was beautiful and demanding. He’d often neglect his fields to fulfill her every whim, while Karthi, though married to a kind woman, focused on his work. One year, a terrible drought struck. Arul's fields withered, as he had spent his time fetching jewels for Selvi instead of preparing for the dry season. He had no grain to sell and soon faced starvation. Karthi, however, had a plentiful harvest, having heeded the warnings of the elder and prepared well. Seeing Arul's plight, Karthi offered him food and work. Arul, humbled, accepted. He learned that true wealth lay not in fleeting pleasures, but in diligence and inner fortitude. He understood the importance of staying focused on essential tasks.
