Aṉpiṉ viḻaiyār poruḷviḻaiyum āytoṭiyār
Iṉcol iḻukkut tarum
English translation
The sweet words of women with choice bangles who desire not love but wealth will bring ruin.
Listen
Explanation
Courtesans (ஆய்தொடியார் - women with select ornaments) seek only money (பொருள் விழையும்), not genuine love. Their sweet words (இன்சொல்) lead men to disaster (இழுக்கு).

Story behind this kural
In a bustling marketplace, a wealthy merchant, blinded by vanity, admired the captivating smiles of a woman adorned with shimmering bangles. Her voice, like honey, promised him delights beyond measure. She spoke of shared dreams and a life of luxury, all he had to do was provide. He showered her with jewels and fine silks, neglecting his loyal wife and his business. Soon, his coffers dwindled. The merchant, once respected, became desperate, borrowing from anyone who would lend. One day, the woman, her bangles now dull, turned away, her sweet words replaced with cold indifference. The merchant, stripped of his wealth and reputation, was left alone. He wandered the marketplace, a shadow of his former self, while the woman sought a new benefactor. He finally understood that the glittering promises of the market could quickly vanish, leaving behind only emptiness.
