பாருக்குள்ளே நல்ல நாடு எங்கள் பாரத நாடு பாருக்குள்ளே நல்ல நாடு தீரத்திலே மேன்மை கொண்டது தெய்வம் நிறை மண்ணினிலே வீரத்திலே சிறந்தது - இந்த வீர பாரத நாடு ஆரியர் தமிழர் என்றும் இன்னும் ஆயிரம் இனங்கள் என்றும் ஊரிலே பேதம் சொல்வார் உண்மை ஒன்றுமே அறியார் பாருக்குள்ளே நல்ல நாடு எங்கள் பாரத நாடு வேதம் நிறை நாடு நல்ல வித்தை மிகு நாடு நீதி வளர் நாடு நல்ல நேர்மை நிறை நாடு ஓதும் கலைகள் யாவும் எங்கள் ஊர்தனில் வளர்ந்தன சாதனை புரிந்த மாந்தர் தரணியில் புகழ் பெற்றார் பாருக்குள்ளே நல்ல நாடு எங்கள் பாரத நாடு

English Translation
Among all countries, the best land is our Bharat (India) Among all countries, the best land It stands tall on the shores with greatness In this land filled with the divine It excels in valor - this Heroic land of Bharat Some say Aryans, some say Tamils And say there are thousands of races Those who speak of divisions in the land Do not know the truth at all Among all countries, the best land is our Bharat A land filled with Vedas, a good land Rich in knowledge and skills A land where justice grows, a good land A land filled with honesty All the arts that are taught Grew in our land Great achievers Became famous in the world Among all countries, the best land is our Bharat
Historical Context
Written during the height of the Indian independence movement (1905-1910), this poem became one of the most powerful expressions of Indian nationalism. Bharathiyar wrote this as a direct response to British colonial attempts to divide Indians by caste, religion, and region. The line "Aariyar Thamizhar endrum" directly addresses the Aryan-Dravidian divide theory that the British used to fragment Indian society. Bharathiyar emphasizes India's ancient achievements in spirituality (Vedas), knowledge, and ethics. This poem was sung at political rallies and continues to be performed at Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations across Tamil Nadu.
