காக்கை குருவி எங்கள் ஜாதி - நீள் கடலும் மலையும் எங்கள் கூட்டம் நோக்கும் திசையெலாம் நாமன்றோ - எந்த நூலும் சொல்லும் பொருள் நாமன்றோ ஆக்கும் தொழிலும் அழிக்கும் தொழிலும் அண்டம் எல்லாம் செய்வோம் நாமே காக்கும் தொழிலும் கருதிச் செய்வோம் காணும் பொருளும் நாமே ஆவோம் ஆதி அந்தம் இல்லோம் நாமே - உள்ள அத்தனையும் வல்ல சக்தி நாமே சோதி மயமான பரம்பொருள் நாமே - இந்த ஜோதியைக் காண்பது ஞானமே பேதம் இல்லை உயர்வு தாழ்வும் இல்லை - இந்த பிரபஞ்சம் எல்லாம் ஒன்றே ஆகும் நாதம் உருவாகி நாமே இருக்கோம் - என்றும் ஞானத் தெளிவோடு வாழ்வோமே உயிர்கள் எல்லாம் ஒன்றே என்று - நீ உணர்ந்து கொண்டால் துன்பமில்லை பயிலும் நூல்கள் சொல்லும் உண்மை - இதை பற்றிக் கொண்டால் அச்சமில்லை

English Translation
The crow and sparrow are our caste - the vast Ocean and mountains are our clan In every direction we look, is it not us? - what Scripture speaks of, is it not us? The work of creation and the work of destruction We do across all the universe The work of protection too we consciously do We become the very objects we see We are without beginning or end - we are The power capable of all that exists We are the Supreme Being made of pure light - to see This light is true wisdom There is no difference, no high or low - this Entire universe is one We exist having become sound itself - always Let us live with clarity of wisdom All living beings are one - if you Realize this, there is no sorrow This is the truth that learned scriptures tell - if you Hold onto this, there is no fear
Historical Context
This is one of Bharathiyar's most profound philosophical works, written around 1912-1915 during his spiritual awakening period. Drawing from Advaita Vedanta philosophy, particularly the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya, the poem expresses the concept of non-duality (Advaita) - that all existence is ultimately one divine consciousness. Bharathiyar uniquely democratizes this philosophy by stating that even crows and sparrows share our divine nature, challenging caste hierarchies. The revolutionary aspect is using Vedantic philosophy to argue for social equality. The poem reflects his time in Pondicherry where he interacted with Sri Aurobindo and other spiritual luminaries. It remains a powerful statement on universal oneness.
