Mikalmēval meypporuḷ kāṇār
Ikalmēval iṉṉā aṟivi ṉavar
English translation
Those with evil understanding who desire enmity will not see the triumph of gaining true wisdom.
Listen
Explanation
Those with harmful understanding (இன்னா அறிவினவர்) who embrace enmity (இகல் மேவல்) will never experience victory (மிகல் மேவல்) or perceive true wisdom (மெய்ப்பொருள் காணார்). Hatred blinds one to real achievement.

Story behind this kural
In a village nestled beside a whispering river, lived two farmers, Arun and Bala. Arun, known for his kindness, cultivated lush fields. Bala, consumed by envy, saw only Arun's success. He sowed discord, spreading rumors about Arun’s methods, hoping to tarnish his reputation and steal his harvest. One season, a terrible drought struck. Arun, despite the hardship, shared his dwindling water supply, helping his neighbors. Bala, blinded by his hatred, hoarded his meager resources, certain of his triumph. When the rains finally returned, Arun's fields, though smaller, were green and flourishing. Bala's, neglected and barren, yielded nothing. The villagers, witnessing Arun's generosity and Bala's bitterness, offered Arun assistance. Bala, alone and defeated, realized his actions had only brought him ruin. He watched as Arun, surrounded by friends, celebrated a bountiful harvest, a victory he had tried so desperately to prevent.
